Open Ideas was a multi-faceted design competition run by the Office for Design and Architecture, South Australia. They sought to gather ideas and proposals for the re-development of a significant site in Adelaide’s CBD. Over two-hundred entries were received from across the world, of which 6 finalist were selected. Additional events were held to receive stakeholder submissions, student contributions and facilitate public engagement.
The Open Ideas publication documents the process and outcomes of the competition featuring essays, successful submissions and analysis of the competition process. The wide variety of content required us to treat each section in an appropriate way — multiple paper stocks were used and a versatile typographic style was developed. Underpinning the design was a strong grid structure, controlled colour palette and restrained use of the angular Open Ideas brand graphic.
